Upgrade Your Lounging Game

On some days, there's nothing I love more than lounging around my house (which we're all doing a lot of right now). Whether it's playing video games or reading a book, sometimes it's refreshing not to have to think about anything for a little while. In order to upgrade your lounging game, I've put together a few tips that'll help make you even more comfortable. Don't get me wrong, there's absolutely no problem with chilling in a T-shirt and basketball shorts, but sometimes it's nice to add that extra level of comfort. Let's take a look.

1. Wear Lounge Shorts

Yes, I know that basketball shorts are very comfortable and freeing, especially in hot weather. It's really convenient to wear them, because regardless of whether you're on the court or in the house, they work fine. The problem with basketball shorts is that they're made with an athletic material that isn't as breathable as a 100% cotton material, for example. So while they're great for when you're moving around, they aren't super great for when you're just sitting in one spot (aka lounging). Instead, opt for a pair of cotton lounge shorts, which are crazy breathable and just look better/classier. The cotton fabric is also better for your skin and doesn't retain heat within your body. H&M has a great selection of lounge shorts - the one I use is only $13 and you can find it here.

2. Use House Slippers

If you're walking around your home barefoot all the time, you're missing out on a serious game-changer: house slippers. The fact is, no matter how often you clean your floor, there's constantly going to be dirt accumulating just from you living there, usually in the form of dust, hair, and dead skin. When you walk around barefoot, all of this stuff sticks to the bottom of your feet and when you get into bed at the end of the night, it gets all over your sheets and bedding. By wearing house slippers, you keep your feet clean and as a by-product, everything that your feet touches is also clean. Also, house slippers just look cool. I usually grab a pair whenever I'm at a hotel, or ask for a pair if they have them (thanks to London House Chicago for my pair), or you can find them anywhere on Amazon.

3. Get a T-shirt Hoodie

This is my favorite thing to lounge in. If you don't know what a t-shirt hoodie is, it's essentially a hoodie that looks and feels like a t-shirt. So it's really thin and breathable, plus it gives you that airiness that make hoodies so comfortable. This is actually great for the summer, because I tend to keep the temperature lower indoors and a t-shirt hoodie provides the right amount of warmth, comfort, and breathability. If you want to take a quick nap, you can just pop the hood over your head and relax. Compared to a regular t-shirt, I find that a t-shirt hoodie is more versatile, especially when the temperature inside your home fluctuates throughout the day. I like this one from Polo Ralph Lauren, because the fit is perfect and it's been extremely durable through many, many washes.

4. Light a Candle

While it's not a clothing item, there's nothing more relaxing, in my opinion, than the scent and vibe that a candle provides. You can get great candles from Bath & Body Works, which is where these are from, but I've found the best ones at HomeGoods (and for under $10 usually). A candle doesn't have to be something you spend a ton of money on, but it's worth getting a quality one that will last a long time and that diffuses an even fragrance. An alternative to this are oil diffusers, however I really enjoy the process of grabbing a match, striking it, and lighting a candle. Once you get your candle game going, you'll find yourself even more relaxed.

5. Don a Robe

If you want to pull one off, a robe is extremely comfortable. I used to be fascinated by robes as a kid, because they just seemed so cool. Something about the aesthetic of a robe made me feel like total boss while wearing one. I don't wear robes often - usually only on those days where I know I'm going to stay in all day - but I've found them to be the most freeing way to lounge around. It makes sense, since robes are very roomy. The one pictured here is entirely made out of cotton, and very breathable as a result. Honestly, I can't remember where I got it, but there are a ton of different robes you can find almost anywhere. My favorite part about mine is the kimono-style silhouette and thin, comfortable material.
